The day started very early with a 6am rise and photo shoot to Porthcawl in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. High tide was at 7am where storm Ciara was in full force. This was to be a new experience for me. I had never photographed live action shots and was neither experienced to the super quick shutter speeds and the high ISO needed to capture frozen action shots.
Conditions were incredibly difficult with high winds and sea spray playing a major part in trying to keep myself and my equipment dry. It proved to be a sharp learning curve balancing speed against noise to give the best shot for the given light. The shot was timed to get the lighthouse in view with waves crashing to the left. Impressive waves did arise but tended to obliterate the lighthouse and the added bonus of a seagull gave me just what I was after.
